Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Spoiler alert!: This post does not contain April Fools Jokes. Sorry.

Sometimes in the middle of the night you crave for something chewy, something sweet and rich. Or maybe you just want to have something to eat while you are enjoying your ice-cold milk before you go to sleep. Or maybe you want to prepare something for Santa. I can count all the options but this would take a while.

The first time I tasted these cookies was when I was in middle school. Our English teacher would bake cookies for us. She was American and she always surprised us with amazing tasting cookies. So one day I went to her and asked her to give me the recipe. That day, I was brightened with the name of "Nestlé Toll House".

I like these cookies as a gift and they are also good if you are baking for friends. You get approximately 60 cookies. Which is a lot. So, if you are not baking for a crowd then you should use the half of the ingredients. I am not saying that you should though. Every single person who tasted these begged for another one, so I recommend that you go for the full batch. These cookies are definitely worth sharing.

So here is the recipe for Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies:

Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups (280 g.) all purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
225 g. butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup (150 g.) granulated white sugar
3/4 cup (160 g.) packed brown sugar*
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 1/3 cups (200 g.) chocolate chips
1 cup (120 g.) chopped nuts (optional)

*: Brown sugar is very important for this recipe because it is the ingredient that makes the cookies soft and chewy.

Directions:

1) Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.

2) Combine flour, baking soda and salt in one medium bowl.

3) In a large bowl or in an electrical mixer beat the butter, sugars (granulated white and packed brown) and vanilla extract until you have a creamy mixture. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4) When you have a creamy mixture again, add in the flour mixture, gradually. Mix well after each addition.

5) Stir in the chocolate chips and the nuts with a spatula.

6) By using a spoon place the cookies on a baking sheet. Roll the cookie dough in your hands to form balls. Then press them with your finger so that they are thin and they look like cookies rather than truffles. If you don't press your fingers, your cookies won't cook evenly. Make sure that there is enough space between your cookies; they will double the size.

7) Bake in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. When the edges are golden brown take it out from the oven. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes and then transfer to the wire rack to complete cooling.

8) Serve with an ice-cold glass of milk. Enjoy.
